WALTHAM and CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Competing at the MIT Invitational this weekend, the Brandeis volleyball team split four matches. The Judges opened up at home with a win over Colby in four sets (25-16, 23-25, 25-21, 25-21) before falling to Bowdoin in three close sets (24-26, 17-25, 18-25). The next day at MIT, the squad split sweeps, losing to Roger Williams (13-25, 22-25, 8-25) before bouncing back to defeat Regis (25-12, 25-13, 25-15). The Judges now stand at 5-6 on the campaign.

Brandeis was led offensively once again by junior outside hitter Liz Hood (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Acad.). Hood led the Judges in kills in all four matches. Her high was 16 against Colby, while her best overall performance came against Regis, when she had 12 kills and just one error in 21 attacks (.524). She added nine kills against Bowdoin and eight against RWU, when she had more than half of the team's total. Hood also had two double-doubles in the Judges' two wins, contributing 16 digs against Colby and 11 against Regis.

The Judges also had a fine performance from sophomore setter Maggie Swenson (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme), who stepped in at setter for senior Yael Einhorn (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East). Swenson contributed a career-high 35 assists in the Colby match, adding 27 against Regis and 26 against Bowdoin. She also recorded a double-double against the Polar Bears with 12 digs.

Junior libero Elsie Bernaiche (Plantsville, Conn./Southington) led the defensive effort with three double-digit efforts in digs, topped out at 18 against Colby. She also had three service aces in that match.

Brandeis returns to action on Tuesday night with a 7:00 p.m. match against Wheaton College.
