Volleyball sweeps Wellesley and Smith

WALTHAM, Massachusetts — The Brandeis University volleyball team swept the first day of the Brandeis Invitational to move to 2-0 on the season. The Judges beat Wellesley, 3-1, in the 6 o'clock match and rolled Smith, 3-0, in their second match.

AGAINST WELLESLEY (25-17, 25-15, 26-28, 25-19)

  • Rookie Clare Meyers (Richfield, Wisc. / Slinger) started off her college career with a bang, leading all players with 12 kills. Junior Shea Decker-Jacoby (Los Angeles, Calif. / Marymount) added ten kills of her own

  • Junior Marlee Nork (Chicago, Ill. / Walter Payton College Prep.) and freshman Marissa Borgert (Blaine, Minn. / Spring Lake Park) split the setting duties, compiling 22 and 23 assists, respectively.

  • Five Judges had double digit dig totals; junior Yvette Cho (San Diego, Calif. / Rancho Bernardo) had a game-high 24, while Meyers (15), Nork (13), Borgert (12), and Decker-Jacoby (11) also contributed.

  • The Judges hit .164 for the match (51K-25E-159TA)

AGAINST SMITH (25-10, 25-16, 25-18)

  • Brandeis set the tone from the get-go, hitting .438 in the first set en route to a 25-10 victory.

  • Sophomore Emma Bartlett (Duxbury, Mass. / Duxbury) had a game-high 9 kills on a very efficient 18 total attempts.

  • The setting duties for this match went to junior Leah Pearlman (El Paso, Texas / El Paso) and freshman Megan Osorio Moran (Hollywood, Fla. / St. Thomas Aquinas), who had 16 and 10 assists, respectively.

  • Three Judges reached double-digits in digs this match: Cho had 17, while Osorio Moran and Pearlman had 10 apiece.

  • The Judges hit .223 for the match (30K-9E-94TA)

ELSEWHERE IN GOSMAN

  • Babson swept Mount St. Mary: 25-17, 25-9, 25-20

  • Franklin swept Wellesley: 25-22, 25-16, 25-16

  • Mount St. Mary took a close one over Rhode Island College: 24-26, 25-20, 22-25, 25-15, 15-13

UP NEXT

  • Brandeis is back at it tomorrow for its final game of the Invitational, taking on Franklin College at 11 AM at Auerbach Arena.
