Volleyball loses to UMass-Boston in four sets

WALTHAM, Massachusetts — The Brandeis University volleyball team lost to the UMass-Boston Beacons in four sets Wednesday night at Auerbach Arena, 25-14, 22-25, 25-22, 25-14. With the loss the Judges fall to 4-3, while UMass-Boston improves to 3-6.

FOR THE JUDGES

  • Sophomore Emma Bartlett (Duxbury, Mass. / Duxbury) led the way with 10 kills, with freshman Marissa Borgert (Blaine, Minn. / Spring Lake Park) close behind at nine. Junior Shea Decker-Jacoby (Los Angeles, Calif. / Marymount) and freshman Belle Scott (Portland, Ore. / Oregon Episcopal School) also added six kills of their own.

  • Head coach Alesia Vaccari opted to use three setters throughout the match, all of whom attained double-digit assists. Junior Marlee Nork (Chicago, Ill. / Walter Payton College Prep.) led with 17, and classmate Leah Pearlman (El Paso, Texas / El Paso) and Borgert had 10 helpers of their own.

  • Junior Yvette Cho (San Diego, Calif. / Rancho Bernardo) tied her season-high in digs with a match-leading 24. Decker-Jacoby set a career-high in digs in a match with 18.

  • Cho had three aces in the match, all of which came in a row in the third set to move the score from an 18-16 deficit to a 19-18 lead. The Beacons were able to grab the lead back, however, and take the set.

  • The Judges hit .054 for the match (39K-31E-149TA).

FOR THE BEACONS

  • Eileen Shi led all comers with 12 kills, while both Rachel Maslach (nine kills; .444 attack percentage) and Ariana Casingal (seven kills; .600 attack percentage) were very efficient at the net.

  • Maslach also led the match with 20 assists; classmate Christina Elliott had 17 of her own.

  • Three Beacons had double-digit assists: Macayla Chianco led the team with 23, Shi had 19, and Emilia Czapiewska had 11.

  • Sarah Doyle had six block assists on the night; Maslach had four.

  • The Beacons hit .250 for the match (46K-12E-136TA)
