Volleyball rides record-breaking effort to sweep vs. Southern Vermont

WALTHAM, Massachusetts — The Brandeis University volleyball team defeated the Southern Vermont Mountaineers in three sets in a Saturday afternoon match at Auerbach Arena, by scores of 25-2, 25-4, 25-4. With the win the Judges move to 5-3, while Southern Vermont falls to 0-9.

FOR THE JUDGES

  • Brandeis broke multiple records during the match, both individual and team.

    • 10 total points allowed is the fewest in the 25-point era (since 2008).

    • 26 team service aces shattered the previous record of 17, set vs. Emmanuel (2011) and Wellesley (2015).

    • Freshman Marissa Borgert (Blaine, Minn. / Spring Lake Park) had nine individual service aces, breaking the previous record of eight set by Susan Sun vs. Emmanuel in 2011.

  • Rookies Borgert and Belle Scott (Portland, Ore. / Oregon Episcopal School) led the match with seven kills. Borgert hit .700 (7K-0E-10TA) and Scott hit .583 (7K-0E-12TA)

  • Junior Leah Pearlman (El Paso, Texas / El Paso) had a match-high 11 assists, while classmate Marlee Nork (Chicago, Ill. / Walter Payton College Prep.) had seven helpers of her own.

  • Junior Jillian Haberli (Cheshire, Conn. / Cheshire) led the match with nine digs.

  • The Judges hit .568 for the match (27K-2E-44TA).

FOR THE MOUNTAINEERS

  • Sarah Billow led Southern Vermont with six kills in the match.

  • Abigail Landon handled the setting duties, compiling seven assists.

  • Landon led the Mountaineers with four digs, while Kemly Derby and Danny Beaumier had three apiece.

UP NEXT

  • Brandeis stays at home to play Regis next Tuesday, September 19 at 7 PM.

  • Southern Vermont returns home and plays Castleton at 7 PM on Wednesday, September 20.
