CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Brandeis University volleyball team dropped two matches to ranked opponents on the first day of University Athletic Association play at Case Western Reserve University, falling to #25 Chicago, 3-0, and #3 Emory, 3-0. The Judges dropped to 7-5 (0-2 UAA) on the season; at the end of the day's matches, Chicago is 14-3 (2-0 UAA) and Emory is 14-1 (2-0 UAA).
AGAINST #25 CHICAGO (25-18, 25-12, 25-21)

Junior Zara Platt (Fountain Valley, Calif. / Fountain Valley) led the Judges with eight kills, while sophomore Emma Bartlett (Duxbury, Mass. / Duxbury) was close behind with seven of her own.

Rookie Marissa Borgert (Blaine, Minn. / Spring Lake Park) led Brandeis with 20 assists, her first time with 20 or more helpers since the first match of the season against Wellesley on September 1.

Junior Yvette Cho (San Diego, Calif. / Rancho Bernardo) had a match-high 16 digs. Borgert and junior Jillian Haberli (Cheshire, Conn. / Cheshire) nearly joined her in the double-digit club, amassing nine digs apiece.

AGAINST #3 EMORY (25-21, 25-16, 25-10)

Borgert had 10 kills on 21 attempts (good for a .333 attack percentage), leading both teams.

Junior Leah Pearlman (El Paso, Texas / El Paso) handled most of the setting duties this match, amassing a match-high 15 assists. Borgert also pitched in, compiling seven helpers herself.

Cho once again led both teams in digs, this time collecting twelve digs.

Bartlett had three block assists for the match.
