Volleyball falls to Rochester in four sets

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Brandeis University volleyball team fell to the University of Rochester Yellowjackets in four sets Sunday, 25-18. 21-25, 26-24, 25-17. The match was both teams' final one of University Athletic Association Round Robin #1. WIth the loss, the Judges fall to 7-6 (0-3 UAA) and Rochester improves to 11-7 (1-2 UAA).

FOR THE JUDGES

  • Sophomore Emma Bartlett (Duxbury, Mass. / Duxbury) had a match-high 13 kills, hitting .346 on the day. Junior Shea Decker-Jacoby (Los Angeles, Calif. / Marymount) had ten kills.

  • Rookie Marissa Borgert (Blaine, Minn. / Spring Lake Park) and junior Leah Pearlman (El Paso, Texas / El Paso) split setting duties, amassing 19 and 18 assists, respectively.

  • Three Judges had double-digit dig totals. Junior Yvette Cho (San Diego, Calif. / Rancho Bernardo) led with a match-high 17, Borgert had 15, and freshman Clare Meyers (Richfield, Wisc. / Slinger) had 11.

  • Cho had five service aces, four of which came as Brandeis closed out the second set.

  • The Judges hit .098 for the match (48K-32E-164TA).

FOR THE YELLOWJACKETS

  • Beth Ghyzel starred, compiling a triple-double with a team-high 13 kills, 11 assists, and 12 digs. Ghyzel hit .379 for the match.

  • Alana Kocak had 11 kills.

  • Renae Lapins was the primary setter for Rochester, as she had 29 assists.

  • Three Yellowjackets had 12 or more digs: Courtney Vidovich (16), Sara Apanavicius (12), and Ghyzel (12).

  • The Yellowjackets hit .273 for the match (46K-10E-132TA).

UP NEXT

  • Brandeis returns home for the first time since September 19 and plays Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Thursday, October 5, at 7 PM in Auerbach Arena.

  • Rochester does not play again until UAA Round Robin #2, on October 14 and 15, when they will take on four conference foes.
