Volleyball beats WPI in four sets

WALTHAM, Massachusetts — The Brandeis University volleyball team beat the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Engineers in four sets Thursday night, 27-25, 25-20, 17-25, 25-22. With the win the Judges improve to 8-6, eclipsing head coach Alesia Vaccari's previous season-high of seven, done twice in her four seasons at the helm. WPI falls to 6-12 with the loss.

FOR THE JUDGES

  • Two Judges had double-doubles: junior Shea Decker-Jacoby (Los Angeles, Calif. / Marymount) had 14 kills and a team-high 25 digs, while freshman Marissa Borgert (Blaine, Minn. / Spring Lake Park) had 10 kills and 21 assists.

  • Sophomore Emma Bartlett (Duxbury, Mass. / Duxbury) had 15 kills on 26 attempts, good for a .462 hitting percentage and a match-high in kills.

  • Junior Marlee Nork (Chicago, IL / Walter Payton College Prep) had a season-high 30 assists.

  • Junior Yvette Cho (San Diego, Calif. / Rancho Bernardo) had 20 digs.

  • Decker-Jacoby had a season-high six service aces.

  • The Judges hit .190 for the match (53K-22E-163TA)

FOR THE ENGINEERS

  • Two Engineers reached double-digit kills: Casey Hunt (11) and Sarah Kwatinetz (10). Melissa Daigle just missed, amassing nine kills.

  • Azita Bakhtyari led all comers with 34 assists.

  • Four different WPI players had 13 or more digs. Victoria Nassar led the group with 19, Ann Kaczowka and Hunt had 15, and Bakhtyari had 13.

  • The Engineers hit .158 for the match (41K-19E-139TA)

UP NEXT

  • Brandeis plays its final home matches of the year this Saturday, October 7, during Homecoming. The Judges take on Gordon at noon and UMass-Dartmouth at 2 PM.

  • WPI travels to New Hampshire this Saturday, October 7, and plays a tri-match against Western Connecticut and Keene State at 2 PM and 4 PM.
