Volleyball rides record-setting efforts to 3-1 win against Worcester State

NORTHAMPTON, Massachusetts — The Brandeis University volleyball team started off the Hall of Fame Invitational with a win Friday night, taking down the Worcester Lancers in four sets, 25-19, 25-12, 23-25, 26-24. With the win the Judges move back above .500 to 11-10, while Worcester falls to 18-8 with the loss. As a team, the Judges had their most kills (63), assists (62), and digs (115) since at least the 2009 season.

FOR THE JUDGES

  • It was a record-setting match for the Judges, as five Judges set career-highs in the big three statistical categories (kills, assists, and digs).

  • Junior Shea Decker-Jacoby (Los Angeles, Calif. / Marymount) had a double-double, tying her career-high with 18 kills and setting a career-high with 29 digs.
  • Junior Marlee Nork (Chicago, IL / Walter Payton College Prep) also had a double-double, setting a season-high in assists, with 36, and a career-high in digs, with 17.
  • Freshman Marissa Borgert (Blaine, Minn. / Spring Lake Park) and junior Zara Platt (Fountain Valley, Calif. / Fountain Valley) stood out at the net for the Judges, both setting career-highs in kills. Borgert had 15 on a super-efficient 30 attempts (.433 attack percentage), while Platt had 14 on 30 attempts (.333).

  • Freshman Megan Osorio Moran (Hollywood, Fla. / St. Thomas Aquinas) also helped set her teammates up, amassing a career-high 17 assists.

  • Junior Yvette Cho (San Diego, Calif. / Rancho Bernardo) blew past her previous season-high in digs of 24, picking up 37.

  • The Judges hit .258 for the match (45K-13E-124TA)

UP NEXT

  • Brandeis finishes up the Hall of Fame Invitational at Amherst tomorrow, taking on Hamilton bright and early at 9 AM and Trinity (Conn.) at 1 PM.

  • Worcester finishes up its slate at the Invitational as well, taking on host Smith at 9 AM and Bridgewater State at 11 AM.
