Volleyball finishes regular season with tough five-set loss to NYU

ATLANTA, Ga. — The Brandeis University volleyball team wrapped up its regular season on Saturday with a tough loss to the the New York University Violets in the University Athletic Association seventh-place match. The Judges took the first two sets, 25-13 and 25-21, before falling in the final three sets, 25-20, 25-21, and 15-9. The Judges finish at 15-14, while the Violets end up at 11-22.

FOR THE JUDGES

  • Three Judges posted double-doubles, all in different combinations of categories.

    • Junior Shea Decker-Jacoby (Los Angeles, Calif. / Marymount) had a team-high 13 kills, as well as 19 digs.

    • Freshman Marissa Borgert (Blaine, Minn. / Spring Lake Park) was close behind Decker-Jacoby with 11 kills, and also added 12 assists. Borgert was not far off from a triple-double, as she had eight digs. She also contributed in the other two major categories, with one block assist and a match-high three service aces.

    • Junior Marlee Nork (Chicago, Ill. / Walter Payton College Prep.) had a team-high 20 assists, and also contributed with 11 digs.

  • Junior Yvette Cho (San Diego, Calif. / Rancho Bernardo) led all players with a match-high 22 digs.

  • Sophomore Emma Bartlett (Duxbury, Mass. / Duxbury) just missed joining the double-digit kill club, totaling nine. She also had a team-high four blocks: two solo and two assists.

  • The Judges hit .119 for the match (46K-25E-176TA).

FOR THE VIOLETS

  • Nazzerine Waldon and Caroline Rapp tied for a match-high in kills, with 15.

    • Both also posted double-doubles with digs as the other category; Rapp tied with Grace Napolitano for a team-high 19 digs, while Waldon had 11 digs.

  • Rayne Ellis also had double-digit digs, with 13. She also had six digs.

  • Daryl Mitchell handled the setting for New York, amassing 38 assists. She also had seven digs.

  • Jacqueline Kupeli was one off the team lead in digs, with 18, and also had a match-high three service aces.

  • The Violets swarmed the net on defense. Michelle Stratford has six blocks (two solo and four assists), and Ellis and Rapp both had five block assists.

  • The Violets hit .098 for the match (51K-34E-174TA).

  • Brandeis plays the waiting game, hoping for an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) postseason bid on Monday, November 7.
