Women's cross country captures Conn. College Invitational

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Brandeis women's cross country team, ranked No. 15 in the nation in Division III, won their second meet of the season and the first with more than two teams, by capturing the Connecticut College Invitational. The Judges scored 54 points, besting 14 other schools, including runner-up RPI by 34 points.

Brandeis was led by junior Marie Lemay (Saco, Maine/Thornton Acad.) led the way by finishing in fifth place. Lemay covered the 6,000-meter course in 22:47, putting her just three seconds ahead of sophomore teammate Alyssa Pisarik (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford), who finished sixth overall. Sophomore Kate Warwick (Boxborough, Mass./Acton-Boxboro Regional) was right behind the two, finishing in eighth place with a time of 23:01. Senior Ally Connolly (Concord, N.H./Concord) took 17th place in 23:28, while junior Emily Owen (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) was 20th with a time of 23:40, giving the Judges a spread of 53 seconds from their first to their fifth scorer.

The Judges are off next weekend before competing in the Open New England championships at Franklin Park in Boston on Oct. 10.
