Selig wins at Albany, claims second-straight UAA honor

WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University senior Grayce Selig of Narberth, Pa., has been selected as the University Athletic Association women's cross country Athlete of the Week for the second week in a row after claiming victory at the University of Albany Invitational on Oct. 16.

Selig, a tri-captain for head coach John Evans's team, won the first major meet of her career. In a field of 177 runners from Division I, II and III, Selig completed the 5K course in 17:34, four seconds ahead of the runner-up from Division I University of New Hampshire. She was more than 40 full seconds ahead of the next Division III competitor from Middlebury, the top-ranked team in Division III. As a team, the Judges were seventh overall out of 22 teams, second among DIII squads, behind only Middlebury.

Brandeis also placed their four other scorers among the top 70 in the race. Junior Kate Warwick of Boxborough, Mass., placed 14th overall with a time of 18:30, third among DIII runners. Classmate Eric Bisceglia of Durham, Conn., was 44th overall in 19:10, while rookies Amelia Lundkvist of South Portland, Maine, and Victoria Sanford of Lagrangeville, N.Y., had two of their best meets as collegians, finishing in 58th (19:31) and 70th place (19:48), respectively.

Selig is a 2007 graduate of Springside School. She is the daughter of William and Deborah Selig, Narberth, Pa.

Warwick is a 2008 graduate of Acton-Boxborough Regional High School. She is the daughter of Robert and Cindy Warwick, Boxborough, Mass.

Bisceglia is a 2008 graduate of Coginchaug High School. She is the daughter of Michael and Catherine Bisceglia, Durham, Conn.

Lundkvist is a 2010 graduate of Cheverus High School. She is the daughter of Haakan and Nena Regay-Lundkvist, South Portland, Maine.

Sanford is a 2010 graduate of Arlington High School. She is the daughter of Nicholas Sanford and Valerie Hatch, Lagrangeville, N.Y.
