Women's cross country has seven named to UAA Silver Anniversary Team

WALTHAM, Mass. – Throughout the course of the fall semester, the University Athletic Association (UAA) has been naming its Silver Anniversary teams, honoring the best student-athletes from the first 25 years of the Association. Brandeis has had 28 alumni named to the teams that have been named so far. Spring teams will be announced next semester.

Leading the way for the Judges was the women’s cross country program, which had seven members named to the 25-Year team, including two-time UAA champions Jean Olds ’92 and Theresa Patten ’94. Brandeis was second only to Washington University on the women’s cross country 25-year team.

Men’s cross country and women’s basketball were next among Brandeis programs with five members each, both ranking third among UAA programs. Men’s cross country had two individual champions (Mark Harrington ‘89 in 1988 and Matthew Griego in 2001) and three three-time first-team selections (Aaron Holley ’97, Rusty Nelson ’00, Robert Olson ’99), while women’s basketball was led by Brandeis Hall of Famer Racheal Perry ’92 and three-time first-team All-UAA member Jaime Capra ’07.

The men’s and women’s soccer team each had four alumni selected to the 25-year team - including Hall of Famers Carmen Bumgarner ’91, Michael Novaria ’91 and Pamela Vaughan ’90 - while men’s basketball had three.

The 25-Year teams were named by assigning two points for each spot on an All-University Athletic Association first team and one point for the second team. Each student-athlete who accumulated five points was selected to the team, as were all players who earned Most Valuable Player or Most Outstanding Performer honors. Brandeis’s 27 honorees include nine who fall into the MVP or MOP category and five inductees in the Brandeis Athletics Hall of Fame.
