Emily Bryson claims UAA Runner of the Week honors

WALTHAM, Massachusetts – Brandeis University women's cross country junior Emily Bryson of Quincy, Mass., has been named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Runner of the Week for September 18.

Bryson is being honored for her performance at the 2017 UMass Dartmouth Shriner's Invitational, where she was the race's runner-up out of 299 runners. Her time of 18:03 over the five-kilometer course put Bryson just nine seconds off the winning pace. She has been a top-four performer at each of her races at UMass Dartmouth, finishing fourth as a rookie and third as a sophomore. Bryson's twin sister Julia was eighth overall at the meet with a time of 18:47.

Brandeis was ranked 34th in Division III entering the meet at UMass Dartmouth. The Judges finished in third place out of 40 teams despite resting one of their top rookies. Brandeis is back in action next Saturday, September 30th, at Keene State College.

This is the ninth career UAA Athlete of the Week honor for Emily Bryson – her sixth during cross country season to go with three from track and field.

Bryson is a 2015 graduate of North Quincy High School.
