WALTHAM, Mass. – Three Brandeis Judges have been selected as University Athletic Association Players of the Week for their performances during the week of Sept. 10-16. Senior Emily Bryson of Quincy, Massachusetts, was honored for women's cross country, while senior Jackson Kogan of Los Angeles, California, and rookie Adam Tzeng of Eagle, Idaho, were honored for men's tennis.

Bryson took home UAA weekly honors for the eighth time in her career for cross country. She earned the award for winning the 2018 UMass Dartmouth Invitational. Bryson, who had previously finished fourth, third and second in the race, finally crossed the tape first, covering the five-kilometer race with a time of 17:54.6, easily besting runner-up Sydney Packard of WPI by 20 full seconds. It was Bryson's second-fastest time on the UMass Dartmouth course by four seconds, after her third-place finish in 2016.

The 25th-ranked Judges won the team trophy at the event as well, scoring 56 points to best second-place Trinity (Conn.) by 49. Brandeis is back in action on Sept. 29 at  Bowdoin College.

For Kogan and Tzeng, this was the first UAA weekly honor for both. The doubles pairing captured the top flight of the 2018 Middlebury Invitational in Brandeis's first event of the 2018-19 season on Sept. 15-16. They knocked off Schuermann and Hwang from Colby, 8-4, in the opening round. In the quarterfinals, they upset top-seeded and host pairing of Cuba and Eazor in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (7-2). After taking down Sorkin and Grant of Tufts in the semifinals, 8-5, the Judges owned a 4-0 lead on Quijano and Glover of Bates before the Bobcat duo were forced to retire, giving the title to the Judges.

As a team, Brandeis performed well at the Middlebury Invitational, reaching six finals and winning three flights. In addition to Kogan and Tzeng, sophomores Rajan Vohra and Nikhil Das won the B doubles flight, while senior Tyler Ng won the D singles flight. The Judges are back in action on the Sept. 29 weekend at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association regional championships, which will also be held at Middlebury.

Bryson is a 2015 graduate of North Quincy High School.
