Senior Spotlight: Ben Wolfe hitting a forehand

Ben Wolfe

Blue Bell, Pennsylvania

Men's Tennis

“I met Ben at an exposure camp while he was in high school,” said head coach Pauri Pandian. “And I remember thinking ‘this is the hardest working guy out here...I'd love to coach him!’ I am so fortunate to have had that opportunity, and that work ethic I saw from him years ago is even more entrenched within him. Ben's work ethic, competitiveness, and drive led him to 34 wins, primarily in singles, throughout his career. No one liked playing against him because of how hard he would make them work, which is one of the best compliments you can give a player. Ben brought everything he had, every single day, and set a great example for his teammates. I'll miss coaching Ben, and I know this team will miss everything he brought to the table.

Ben went 34-20 in his career, including going 9-0 in matches at 4 and 5 singles in his career, while 11 of his wins came at number 6. His top tournament performance came at this year’s Wesleyan Invitational, where Wolfe reached the D singles final, falling to a teammate in the finals. As a sophomore, Wolfe earned Brandeis Athlete of the Week honors after earning a match-clinching win in the team’s 5-4 victory over Bates College.

“The thing I’ll miss most about Brandeis is the tennis family,” Wolfe said. “Everyone who has been my teammate for the past four years will be missed, and I want to keep in contact with all of them. I will especially miss my teammates during my senior year and the nightly Wolverine games we would play. I've never been a part of a better team culture than this year. I can say for certain that these are my best friends and I'll be back to root them on in their matches next year when they win the national title.”

GET TO KNOW DONNIE

Majors: Economics and Business.

Favorite part about competing for Brandeis: Pushing myself to improve in the sport I love.

Favorite Athletic Moment at Brandeis: Indoor Team Nationals against Emory (this past February). The energy was amazing and our guys competed so well. I've never been more proud to be a Judge than at that moment. We barely lost to the #1 team in the country that day, and we cemented ourselves as contenders for a national championship.

The thing that attracted me to Brandeis: The people. It's so cliché only because it's true.

Favorite Professor: Linda Bui, because she made econ stats interesting.

Outside of my sport, favorite thing to do at Brandeis: Hang out at MOD 5 with Mandi, Cloo, Mar, DJ Ruch, Ger, and the rest of my non-tennis friends.

After I graduate, I plan to: Work in risk management at the FDIC in Boston.

Dream Job: Professional movie-watcher.

Favorite Movie: The Dark Knight.

Favorite TV Show: The Office.

Favorite Book: To Kill A Mockingbird.

Favorite pro team: The Philadelphia Eagles.

Most memorable pro sports moment: The Eagles winning the Super Bowl in 2018.

Favorite Meal: Chicken fried rice from Baan Thai (rip).
