Senior Spotlight: Dan Curley

Dan Curley

Norwood, Massachusetts

Track and Field

Dan Curley served as the captain of the men’s cross country team last fall when he was among the team’s top five finishers at every meet, including a sixth-place finish overall at the Wellesley Invitational. During indoor track season, he ran a p.r. in the mile at the BU Valentine Invitational, breaking 4:30 for the first time in his career.

“Dan was the team’s biggest cheerleader,” said head coach Sinead Evans. “You could hear him on the other side of the track cheering on his teammates, always there to support and encourage everyone in every event.”

GET TO KNOW DAN

Majors: Physics major with a mathematics minor

Favorite athletic moment at Brandeis: Anchoring the DMR during the UAA indoor championships at home in my junior year. We had a bunch of alumni and parents there, and the atmosphere was just great. For me personally, it was one of the best races I've run in my career. I think we sort of surprised ourselves with how well we ran, considering we hadn't run that relay until that day.

The thing that most attracted me to Brandeis: The people. I just remember when I visited campus in High School, everyone I met was so friendly. It was almost like I had already been accepted into the community. It was an experience I didn't get at any other college.

Favorite place on campus outside of Gosman: Goldfarb Library, ground floor, the study area just past the shelves of DVDs.

The thing I’ll miss most about Brandeis: I'm going to miss getting dinner with the team in Sherman every night. Dinner in Sherm was always a time to just unwind with the team after practice and forget about whatever stress and worries were going on in life for a while. The food may not have always been the best, but the people definitely were.

Dream Job: data analysis, preferably with a baseball organization.

Favorite Movie: The Princess Bride

Favorite TV Show: The Wire

Favorite Song: "Love, Reign O'er Me" - The Who

Favorite Book: "Once a Runner" - John L. Parker Jr.

Favorite Pro Team: The Red Sox, because I love baseball, and they've always been my hometown team

Favorite Memorable Sports Moment: Chris Sale striking out Manny Machado to win the 2018 World Series. I'd never followed a team like I did the 2018 Red Sox, but that was a great season for it.

Dream Jeopardy! Categories: Geography, Movies, the 1899 Cleveland Spiders

Favorite Meal: Fresh burgers off a grill (charcoal, not gas)

Favorite Quote: "To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift."  - Steve Prefontaine

Favorite Twitter Follow: wholesome Memes (@WholesomeMeme) - their feed always brightens my day!
