Eight Brandeis teams earn academic honors from coaches associations

WALTHAM, Mass. – Eight different Brandeis University varsity teams have earned Team All-Academic honors from their respective coaching associations after reaching a cumulative team grade-point average.

  • For the fifth time in six years, the Brandeis men's and women's tennis teams were honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for reaching a 3.20 cumulative GPA mark. In addition to the team accolade, the Judges placed eight men and five women on the ITA's Scholar-Athlete list for reaching a 3.50. The 13 individuals were Lauren Bertsch '21, Isabel Cepeda '21, Ana Hatfield '22, Grace Wang '23 and Rachel Zubrinsky '21 for the women and David Aizenberg '20, Jeffrey Chen '22, Nikhil Das '21, Ben Maffa '21, Colt Tegtmeier '22, Adam Tzeng '22, Rajan Vohra '21 and Ben Wolfe '20 for the men. This was the first year for the Judges' tennis teams under head coach Pauri Pandian.
  • Brandeis volleyball was honored for the fourth year in a row and seventh time overall by the American Volleyball Coaches Association as a Team Academic Award recipient for reaching a 3.30 team cumulative GPA. The Judges were one of a record 1,313 teams honored by the AVCA this season. Brandeis volleyball is coached by Alesia Bennett, entering her seventh season with the Judges.
  • The Brandeis men's and women's track and field teams were both recognized by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for reaching a 3.10 GPA. Both teams compiled a cumulative 3.43 grade point average. In addition, the Judges had five individuals earn All-Academic Athlete honors by reaching a 3.30 GPA while finishing among the top 50 on the national performance lists in an individual event or top 35 in a relay. The Judges' individuals were Jack Allan '20 for the men and Danielle Bertaux '20, Andrea Bolduc '21, Sydney D'Amaddio '23 and Victoria Morrongiello '23 for the women. Sinead Evans is the head coach of Brandeis track and field, entering her eighth season in 2020-21.
  •  Brandeis University men's and women's swimming and diving were each honored as Scholar All-America teams by the College Swim Coaches Association of America for posting a 3.0 team GPA in the spring semester. The Brandeis women were recognized for the 55th time in 56 semesters, dating back to the tenure of Hall of Fame coach Jim Zotz, while the men were honored for the 12th time in the past 14 semesters. Nicole Carter, entering her third season, coaches the Judges.
  • The Brandeis University men's basketball team was recognized by the National Association of Basketball Coaches for the first time with their Team Academic Excellence Award after posting a team GPA above 3.0. This was the first time the Judges were honored in the eight years the NABC has presented the award. Brandeis men's basketball is coached by Jean Bain, who is entering his third season.
