  • Nolan, Swerdloff claim UAA Pitcher of the Week honors

    Rookie Melissa Nolan of the softball team and sophomore Mike Swerdloff of the baseball team were named the UAA Pitchers of the Week for April 4. Nolan went 2-1 with a 0.57 ERA and 13 strikeouts, while Swerdloff was 1-0 with 12 Ks, including 11 in one game, the most by a Judge since 2007.
  • Figueroa '98 to break camp as Astros' fifth starter

    For the first time in his career, Brandeis alumnus Nelson Figueroa will start a Major League Baseball season in the starting rotation. Figueroa was named the Houston Astros fifth starter by manager Brad Mills. Read about it, including an interview with Mill, on the Astros' official web site.
  • Nicholson's bat, arm lead baseball to 6-5 win over Bridgewater St. in New England debut

    Judge senior Pat Nicholson delivered a two-run double in the third inning to give his team a 3-0 lead. He came to the rescue on the hill at the end of the game, getting the last four outs to preserve a 6-5 victory over Bridgewater State University in Brandeis's first game back in New England.

  • Baseball rallies but falls short against WashU, 8-6, in UAA finale

    In their final game in Florida, the middle of the Brandeis baseball lineup went 8-for-16 with five RBI and four runs scored, but the Judges were unable to climb all the way out of a six-run hole in falling to Washington University, 8-6, in the UAA tournament. The Judges return home with a record 7-7, finishing 2-4 in the UAA.
  • Baseball suffers 8-4 loss to Case

    Senior Pat Nicholson allowed seven hits and four runs over five innings in his third start of the season, but the Judges couldn't quite get back on top as they fell to Case Western Reserve, 8-4, in the only meeting between the two schools in the 2011 UAA tournament.
  • Baseball falls to Emory for second time in UAA tourney, 12-5

    The Brandeis baseball team dropped its second game of the UAA tournament, falling 12-5 to Emory. The Judges manufactured their runs in the second and third innings, as they opened up a 5-1 lead with just one hit, a two-run single by rookie SS Dom Schwartz. After the third inning, though, they managed just two more base runners the rest of the way.
  • McGrath hurls baseball past WashU, 5-2, in UAA action

    Senior righty John McGrath tossed the second-longest outing of his career, scattering five hits over 7.2 innings of work to lead the Brandeis baseball team to a 5-2 win over Washington University in the UAA tournament. The Judges scored four runs in the seventh inning to snap a 1-1 tie and go on to the win.
  • Baseball drops UAA opener to Emory, 11-3

    Tony Deshler went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, and the Judges outhit Emory, 10-8, but the Eagles took advantage of Brandeis walks and errors to claim an 11-3 win in the University Athletic Association opener for both teams. The Judges are right back in action against Rochester later tonight.
  • Judges prevail over UR, 7-6, in 12 innings

    Junior Zach Malis had three hits and three runs scored and senior 1B Eric Rosenberg extended his hitting streak to seven with the game-winning hit in the 12th inning as the Brandeis baseball team won for the sixth time in seven games, 7-6, over Rochester in UAA action today. Rookie Brian Ing pitched three effective innings of relief for the win.
  • Baseball wins fifth straight, 3-2, over Mount St. Mary's

    Senior 1B Eric Rosenberg went 3-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and run scored, and four Brandeis pitchers scattered eight hits to lead the Judges to their fifth-straight win, a 3-2 victory over Mount St. Mary (N.Y.) College in a non-conference match-up at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex. The Judges move to 5-3 on the season with the win as the prepare for the University Athletic Association tournament.
  • Baseball moves over .500 with 12-6 win over Drew

    Seniors SS Tony Deshler and 1B Eric Rosenberg combined to go 4-for-10 with a double, a triple and seven RBI to lead the Brandeis baseball team past Drew University, 12-6, in a non-conference tilt in Florida. With the victory, the Judges move above .500 with their fourth win in a row.
  • Brandeis baseball sweeps Grove City to close Florida trip at 3-3

    The Brandeis baseball team won its last three games at the 2011 RussMatt Invitational today to close out its February trip to Florida with a 3-3 record. The Judges defeated Grove City College twice by the score of 6-4 to even their record.

    Senior Pat Nicholson's pitching helped the Judges take down the Farmingdale State College Rams last Friday in Florida, for their first win of the season.
  • Big inning costs baseball against Augustana (Ill.), 7-3

    The Augustana University Vikings scored five runs in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth to jump out to a 7-0 lead and they hung on to defeat the Judges, 7-3, in Brandeis's first baseball game of the season against an NCAA opponent. Chris Ferro went 3-for-5, while Tony Deshler had two RBI.
  • Baseball drops first two games of season to NAIA Davenport

    The Brandeis University baseball team, opening its 2011 season at the RussMatt Invitational in Auburndale and Winter Park, Fla., dropped its first two contests at the hands of NAIA Davenport (Iowa) University. The Panthers took the opener, 7-6, with a four-run eighth inning on Tuesday, and then put up a three-spot in the first frame on Wednesday en route to a 7-2 victory.
