Another in a series, we check in with Brandeis student-athletes about how they've handled the unique situations presented by the spring and summer of 2020. 

Collin Sawyer '20 finished his senior year with first-team All-UAA honors and third-team All-New England accolades. He led the Judges in scoring and finished fourth in the conference at 15.6 points per game. Sawyer will be back with the Judges as a graduate student in 2020-21, using a medical waiver. 

How did your classes go last semester? Did you do well with virtual learning?

It was definitely weird switching abruptly to online learning but I finished up strong which was nice to give the GPA one last boost before graduating. I definitely found it harder to focus when classes went online, but my teachers made the best of the situation. They were also really flexible and understanding throughout the entire process.

How did you spend your free time? 

Combination of watching shows, reading, drawing, Facetiming friends, and working out. Once it got warmer outside I was able to go to an outdoor court and get some training in.

What's the best movie or show you saw? 

I have watched a lot of stuff in the last couple of months but I think the best show I have recently watched was "What We Do in the Shadows."

How have you kept engaged with your coaches and teammates?

Besides a couple of team meetings, it's really just been a combination of texts or phone calls. It's important to check in with each other and make sure everyone is doing well.

How have you kept in shape for your sport? 

This has honestly been a bit challenging, especially when we initially were sent home because it was still cold outside. I didn't own much workout equipment so I had to order some resistance bands and get creative. As it got warmer and some restrictions were lifted it got easier to stay in shape. Also, basketball outside is not the same, I struggle to shoot outside. So you heard it here first, Collin Sawyer is not an outdoor cat.

What's the first thing you want to do when you get back onto campus?

The first thing I am doing is going straight to the Shapiro gym, blasting some R&B, and using the shooting machine for a couple of hours.
