WALTHAM, Mass. — Brandeis University had three students selected as University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week last week. Sophomore Emily Bryson of Quincy, Mass., was selected for women's track and field, rookie Jessica Gets of Morganville, N.J., was honored for women's fencing, and junior Eli Litle of Haifa, Israel, was honored for men's fencing.

Bryson was honored for the second time by the UAA this indoor track season. Competing against Division I, II and III runners at the Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic, Bryson established a new school record in the mile run with a time of 4:52.18. She bested the previous school record of 4:54.82 established by Grayce Selig '11 by more than a second and a half. After converting the time because of a banked track, Bryson's time is the top-ranked mark in Division III this season also by approximately 1.5 seconds and is the fastest in the UAA by five seconds. Bryson was 13th at the meet, behind a handful of independent and Division I runners.

Gets guided the Brandeis women's fencing team to a 5-1 week by posting a 16-1 record for the foil squad. Gets went 3-0 in a 16-11 victory over Wellesley College on Wednesday evening. At the second Northeast Fencing Conference (NFC) meet of the season on Saturday at Brown University, Gets added 3-0 marks against Vassar, Brown and Boston College, while going 2-0 against Tufts and 2-1 against Dartmouth. The foil squad went undefeated at the NFC meet, never allowing their opponent more than three wins. Overall at the NFC, the Judges finished 4-1, with wins over Vassar (20-7), Dartmouth (17-10), Tufts (14-13) and Brown (15-12) before falling to BC (11-16). The Judges are 9-3 overall in the NFC this season.

Litle posted a 10-2 record in men's foil at the NFC meet at Brown. Litle went 3-0 against Tufts and Brown and 2-1 against Boston College as his squad went 4-1. The Judges were 5-0 overall on the weekend with dramatic victories over Vassar (15-12), Brown (14-13) and Boston College (15-12) and a pair of easier wins against Tufts (23-4) and Dartmouth (25-2). The final match of the day between Brandeis and BC featured two unbeaten teams, with the Judges' win securing the outright men's NFC title with a 10-0 record.
