Fencing hosts Brandeis Invitational

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University fencing team hosted the Brandeis Invitational today, its first home meet of the 2017-18 season. The men posted a 4-2 record, with wins over Cornell, UNC, Incarnate Word, and Brown, while the women went 1-5, beating Incarnate Word.

The best weapon performance for the men came from saber, which 4-2 for the day. Foil followed at 3-3, and foil was 1-5, although four of the five losses were by a 5-4 score. All of the wins were close, as the Judges beat Cornell, UNC, and Brown by a score of 16-11 and Incarnate Word 15-12. Senior saber fencer Hunter Stusnick (New Vernon, N.J. / Chatham) went 9-6 throughout the Invitational.

The women beat Incarnate Word 20-7 and had a close loss to Brown, 12-15. The best team weapon performance came from foil, which went 3-3 with some dominant victories, including a perfect 9-0 over Incarnate Word and 8-1 over St. John's. Sophomore foilist Jessica Gets (Morganville, N.J. / Marlborough) had a dominant day, going 15-3.

The Judges return to action on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at the second Northeast Fencing Conference meet of the season, hosted by Boston College.
