Men pick up two wins at 2018 Brandeis Fencing Invitational

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University fencing teams picked up two wins in 10 matches against some stiff competition today at the 2018 Brandeis Invitational. The wins came from the men's team, who defeated Cornell, 17-10, and Incarnate Word, 16-11. The men finished 2-3 on the day and are now 7-3 overall this season, while the women were 0-5 and are now 6-6 overall.

TOP SQUADS

  • The men's foil squad had the best day for the Judges, winning four of their five matches. They were 7-2 winners over UNC and UIW, defeated Cornell 6-3, and edged St. John's, 5-4.
  • Men's saber went 3-2 on the day, including 8-1 wins over Cornell and Incarnate Word.
  • Saber also had the best day for the women, picking up a pair of 6-3 wins over Yale and UIW.

TOP INDIVIDUALS

  • Men's foil junior Ian Quin (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) led the way for the Judges, going 9-3 across his four matches. He was 3-0 against St. John's, Incarnate Word and UNC, dropping three to Yale.
  • Rookie Lucas Lin (Plano, Texas / Plano West) paced the men's saber squad with a 5-2 record, including 3-0 vs. Cornell and 2-1 vs. North Carolina.
  • Junior Chris Armstrong (Highland Park, Ill. / Highland Park) was responsible for four of the six wins for  men's epee.
  • Women's foil senior Joanne Carminucci (Brewster, N.Y./North Salem) finished over .500 with an 8-7 record to top the women in victories.
  • Rookie Jada Harrison (Jericho, N.Y. / Jericho) won five bouts for the saber squad, while sophomore Madeleine Vibert (Las Vegas, Nev. / West Career and Tech. Academy) earned four points for epee.

  • The Judges are off until next semester, when they head to Colorado Springs and the U.S. Air Force Academy for the Western Invitational.
