NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The Brandeis men's soccer team matched the school record for wins during the regular season today as the Judges defeated rival NYU, 1-0, in a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest today at Gaelic Park in the Bronx.

The Judges, ranked seventh in Division III, finish the regular season with a 17-2 record, 5-2 in the UAA. They match the 1985 squad's mark with their 17 regular-season wins. The school record for overall wins in 19, set in 1984 when Brandeis went to the Division III national championship game.

NYU ends its regular season at 11-6, 2-5 UAA.

Brandeis owned a 21-8 advantage in shots, though shots on goal were tied at 7-7. The game was scoreless until the 81st minute. After Violet defenders got in the way of back-to-back shots from senior forward Tyler Savonen (Orleans, Mass./Nauset Regional), the third attempt off the foot of sophomore Evan Jastremski (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) found the back of the net. The goal was Jastremski's first of the season and the sixth of his career. It was his second collegiate game-winner.

On the defensive end, Brandeis senior Joe Graffy (Concord, N.H./Concord) made a season-high seven saves to secure the team's 14th shutout of the season, tying the school-record set in 1984. It was his 12th solo shutout of the campaign, second-most for an individual goalie, while his six goals allowed this season are the fewest in school history.

NYU goalkeeper Lucas Doucette made five saves in the losing effort.

Despite the win, the Judges fell two points shy of their first outright UAA title, finishing second to the University of Chicago.
