ATLANTA, Ga. – Brandeis University senior Patrick Flahive (Chatham, Ill./Worcester Academy) scored a goal with just over three minutes left in the second overtime period to break a scoreless tie and give the Judges a key University Athletic Association (UAA) road win against Emory University.

With the result, the Judges – ranked No. 15 nationally in Division III by the United Soccer Coaches and by D3soccer.com – and Eagles – ranked No. 23 by D3soccer.com – own identical records at 10-3 overall, 3-1 in the UAA. The teams are tied for first in the UAA standings with Rochester and No. 4 Chicago.

The winning goal was scored on a nice combo play. Senior Josh Ocel (North Attleboro, Mass./Worcester Academy) started with a short throw-in to sophomore back Dylan Hennessy (New York, N.Y./Northfield Mount Hermon). Hennessy served the ball into the box, and Flahive emerged from a pack to beat Emory keeper Cole Gallagher to the ball, heading it into the right netting. It was Flahive's team-leading fifth goal. It was also his third game-winner of the season, including in a UAA win over Case Western Reserve. It was the eighth-game-winning goal of his career.

The game was evenly played throughout, with Brandeis owning a slim 20-19 edge in shots. Corner kicks were even at 6-all, and Brandeis had 14 fouls to nine for Emory.

Senior goalkeeper Ben Woodhouse (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) was a key factor in the win, making six of his eight saves in the second half as the Eagles mounted pressure. In overtime, he denied EU's Michael Carragher just 35 seconds before Flahive's game-winning goal. The shutout was Woodhouse's third of the season and the 19th of his career, while the win was his 35th.

The win was Brandeis's fourth in a row against Emory and fifth in the last six meetings. It was the Judges' second-straight win in Atlanta, after dropping the first 14 meetings at Emory.

Brandeis returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. with their final non-conference game of the season at Clark University before starting a three-game season-ending UAA homestand on Oct. 27 against Washington University at 5 p.m.
