WENHAM, Mass. (courtesy Gordon College) — In the second game of the North Shore Classic, the fourth-ranked Brandeis University Judges suffered an upset at the hands of host Gordon College, 3-2. 

The Fighting Scots (1-1) struck first in the eighth minute when Tyler Modzeleski scooped up a deflected shot off the keeper and put it in the upper left corner of the goal. The Judges (1-1) responded in the 25th minute with a penalty-kick goal by senior Andrew Allen (Norfolk, Mass. / King Phillip Regional), his second of the season. Collin Surface regained the lead for Gordon three minutes later as his shot from 30 yards out found the upper right corner of the net. Modzeleski was fouled in the goal box and converted his penalty kick to put the Fighting Scots up 3-1 less than a minutes later. Brandeis cut the deficit to one goal in the 41st minute with a header by junior Jake Warren (Medway, Mass./Medway) that ricocheted off the right post into the net. The Fighting Scots had one last opportunity to score with eight seconds left in the half, but Rachid Bilotti's shot was blocked to keep the game at 3-2 entering halftime.

In the second half, the Judges dominated possession as they held a 15-3 shot advantage. They put six of those shots on goal. Brandeis attempted five shots in a five minute-span from the 73rd to 78th minute with Wesley Sprague stopping three of them. They had three more opportunities in the last eight minutes of the game. Allen had two header shots, one in the 83rd minute and one in the 89th minute that went just wide of the net. Senior Brandon Miskin's (Needham, Mass./Worcester Academy) header went wide left of the net with 28 seconds left and Gordon was able to maintain possession to run out the clock and seal the win.

Sprague recorded seven saves with six in the second half and faced 19 shots to earn the win. In the first half, junior Noah Cohen (North Barrington, Ill. / Lake Forest Acad.) made one save, while classmate Greg Irwin (Passaic, N.J. / Seton Hall Prep) had two stops in the second half.

Brandeis opens its home schedule on Wednesday when they play host to Springfield College at 7 p.m. on Gordon Field.
