WORCESTER, Mass. (taken from a WPI press release) – Senior Frank Ciliberto (Spencerport, N.Y.) needed an extra 1:38 to deliver the decisive goal to lift WPI past Brandeis, 1-0, in overtime Tuesday night in a non-conference men's soccer match inside Alumni Stadium. It was the fourth-straight overtime contest between the two teams.

The Engineers (5-0) earn their first win against the Judges (2-3) since 2009, and the first at home since 2006. WPI entered the game as the fifth-ranked team in the United Soccer Coaches regional poll while Brandeis was slotted ninth.  

Ciliberto launched his third goal of the year, a free kick from just beyond the 20-yard line to end the match. Junior Mark Calnan(Winchester, Mass.) accounted for the hosts two attempts in regulation; however, arguably the best chance was off the foot of juniorLuke Reiniger (Rowley, Mass.) with 28 seconds remaining.

Shots were even 6-6 with the guests owning a 3-1 advantage on-net in the opening frame. WPI had a slim 6-5 edge in the second half as both sides registered one on-goal. Engineer sophomore Rufus Adams (Duxbury, Mass.) stonewalled four shots and Brandeis junior Greg Irwin (Passaic, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) halted two. Senior Josh Handler (Oakdale, Conn./Montville), freshman Skylah Dias (Swansea, Mass./Joseph Case) and junior Max Breiter (Lincoln, Mass./Lawrence Acad.) were all credited with at least one shot-on-goal for the Judges.

The Engineers welcome Babson, the sixth team in the same coaches poll, to begin NEWMAC play at noon Saturday. Brandeis is off until next Tuesday when it hosts Mass. Maritime at 4 p.m.
