Guthro named Division III National Player of the Week by United Soccer Coaches

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Brandeis University junior goalkeeper Aiden Guthro of Newburyport, Massachusetts, has been as the Division III Men's Soccer National Player of the Week for the week ending October 31st. 

Guthro was also named the University Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season after leading the Judges to a 1-0-1 week last week. On Friday, October 29th, the Judges upset #13-ranked Emory, 3-2, in overtime, as Guthro made a career-high 14 saves, including eight in the second half and overtime. Brandeis scored goals in the 87th and 97th minutes to overcome a 2-1 deficit. On October 31st against the University of Rochester, Guthro made six more saves and recorded his fifth career shutout as the Judges and Yellowjackets battled to a 0-0 draw. 

Overall this season, Guthro leads the UAA with 72 saves. He ranks fifth in the league with a .818 save percentage - good for 52nd overall in Division III - and sixth with a 0.99 goals-against average. 

The Judges own a record of 5-7-3 record this season, 2-2-2 in the UAA, good for fifth place in the conference with eight points. They wrap up the 2021 season this Saturday at #15 NYU at 1:30 p.m.

Guthro is a 2019 graduate of Newburyport High School.
