WENHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis swimming and diving teams swam against Gordon College in a dual meet on Sunday evening. The Judges swept the meet, winning all events on the day. The men's team won 139-40, while the women's team won 162-72.
On the men's side, there were several standout performers. First-year Gerald Deng (Rego Park, N.Y. / Bronx Science) swept the distance events, winning the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:58.87 and the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:21.21. Another first-year, Allen Hawkins (Weston, Conn. / Weston), finished first in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 30.30 and second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:59.29. Junior Joshua Liu (New Hyde Park, N.Y. / Great Neck South) added to the victories, taking first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:10.30. Liu also added a second-place finish in the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 1:01.34.
On the women's side, first-year Chloe Gonzalez (Miami Beach, Fla. / Miami Beach Senior High), was a triple winner on the day, taking first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.88, the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.99, and the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 58.77. Junior Becky Goodfellow (Lakeville, Mass. / Apponequet Regional) added a win in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:55.45. Goodfellow also finished second in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 32.46. Sophomore Monica Iizuka (Chatham, N.J. / Chatham) took home first place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:04.11 and the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 33.83.
The Judges return to action tomorrow, Saturday, January 22 when they travel to New Hampshire to take on the Keene State College Owls.
