LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Brandeis University men's tennis team closed out its February trip to California with a 7-2 victory over Occidental College. The Judges improve to 2-1 with the win, while the Tigers fall to 0-3.

Brandeis got off to a commanding 3-0 lead after doubles action. They took 8-2 wins at both No. 2 and 3 doubles, while rookie Michael Arguello (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood) and sophomore Danny Lubarsky (Cleveland, Ohio/Hawken School) outlasted Josh Danau and Avery Howard at No. 1, 9-8, rolling to a 7-1 win in the tiebreaker.

In singles action, the Judges won four straight-set matches to clinch the win. Rookie Brian Granoff (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) had the easiest time at No. 2, losing just three games, 6-2, 6-1. Classmate Ryan Bunis (Groton, Mass./Groton-Dunstable) took a 6-1, 6-4, decision at No. 4, while Lubarsky picked up a second win with an easy second set, 7-5, 6-0. The final singles point came from another firs-tyear player, as Jeff Cherkin (Melville, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) was tested by Erik Kazangian before prevailing, 7-6, 6-4.

The Judges return to action on March 1 with a road match at Vassar College.
