#19 men's tennis falls to #4 Middlebury, 9-0

NATICK, Mass. – The Brandeis men's tennis team dropped a top-20 matchup today in an off-campus match as the #19 Judges fell to #4 Middlebury, 9-0, at the Natick Racquet Club. Brandeis falls to 5-2 on the season, while the Panthers improve to 5-0.

The Judges fell behind in doubles action, with sophomore David Aizenberg (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) and rookie Anupreeth Coramutla (Madison Township, N.J./Phillips Andover) dropped an 8-2 decision to Middlebury's Lubomir Cuba – who won the Division III singles and doubles titles last year – and Kyle Schlanger. The closest doubles contest was at No. 3, where rookies Nikhil Das (Smithfield, R.I. / Moses Brown School) and Rajan Vohra (Glen Head, N.Y. / North Shore) suffered an 8-5 defeat to Weston Brach and Nate Eazor.

In singles action, the Panthers won the first four matches in straight sets. The closest the Judges came to victory was at No. 3, where Vohra pushed Timo van der Geest in the third-set super tiebreaker before bowing, 3-6, 6-3, 10-8. No. 4 singles also came down to a super tiebreaker, with junior Tyler Ng (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck South) taking the first set from Alex Vanezis before losing the next two, 3-6, 6-4, 10-1.

The Judges return to action against unranked Colby-Sawyer next Friday afternoon at 3 p.m.
