Kramer, Farrington pace track squads at Carisella Invite

BOSTON, Mass. – The Brandeis University track and field team opened its 2012-13 indoor season with a number of fine performances against Division I, II and III competition at the Jay Carisella Invitational, held at Boston University but hosted by Northeastern.  The meet was a non-scoring event.

Leading the way for the Judges was senior Kim Farrington (Shirley, Mass./Ayer) with a second-place finish out of 15 competitors in the triple jump. Farrington's distance of 11.05 meters (36 feet, three inches) trailed only a competitor from DII UMass Lowell.

Also cracking the top five on the men's side for Brandeis was senior Alex Kramer (No. Andover, Mass./No. Andover) . In the mile run, Kramer finished fourth of 28 runners with a time of 4:17.35, just edged out at the tape by another UMass Lowell competitor for third place.

Junior Vincent Asante (Bronx, N.Y./H.S. for Arts, Imagination and Inquiry)  was one of eight qualifiers for the finals out of 46 runners in the 60-meter dash, running 7.24 seconds in the prelims and 7.10 seconds in the finals to come in seventh. Asante was one of two Division III runners in the finals. He also won his heat in the 200 with a time of 22.90 seconds, finishing 14th.

Rookie Carl Lieberman (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) made his collegiate debut with a sixth-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:03.10, the top Division III runner. Classmate Brian Louis (Elmont, N.Y./Bishop Ford Central Catholic) was seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 12.72 meters (41 feet, 8 ¾ inches).

On the women's side, in addition to Farrington, classmate Brittany Bell (Setauket, N.Y./Hotchkiss School) had the top performance, finishing 12th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.07 seconds, missing the finals by just three-hundredths of a second.  Rookie Allison Callahan (Groton, Mass./Groton Dunstable Regional) was 11th in the high jump in her first college meet with a height of 1.47 meters (4 feet, 9 ¾ inches).

The Judges return to action with their only home meet of the season, the Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational, next Friday evening at 5 p.m.
