WALTHAM, Mass. -- The Brandeis indoor track and field teams had four performances that earned All-New England honors at the 2013 New England Division III Championship meets on Feb. 16. The men had three different runners take top-three podium spots at Bates College, while the women had one performance in the field at the University of Southern Maine.

The top performance of the weekend came from junior sprinter Vincent Asante (Bronx, N.Y./High School for the Arts, Imagination and Inquiry) in the 60-meter dash. Asante ran a time of 7.09 seconds in the preliminaries, which was the fourth-fastest in qualifiying. He then ran a time of 7.02 seconds in the finals, one-hundredth of a second off his fastest time of the season. In each race, Asante was second only to Colby's Dominic Kone, who is the defending NCAA champion as well. It was Asante's third All-Region honor, second indoors, having finished third in the 55-meter dash two years ago as a rookie. 

Earning his second career All-New England honor was senior Alex Kramer (No. Andover, Mass./No. Andover) who finished third in the mile run. Kramer ran a time of 4:14.40, 1.17 seconds out of the top spot. It was not Kramer's fastest time of the season, but because his previous best had come on a banked track, Kramer improved to 18th in the nation in the event. Kramer had previously earned All-Region honors in the mile as a junior, when he finished in eighth place. 

Senior Mik Kern (Groton, N.Y./Groton) was a second-time All-New England honoree, the first time as an individual. He place third in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:32.33. He was 0.41 seconds shy of winning a New England title. 

With the 20 points scored by the three Judges, the Brandeis men finished in 13th place out of 22 teams that scored points at Bates.

On the women's side, senior Kim Farrington (Shirley, Mass./Ayer) took home All-New England honors for the second time in her career in the triple jump. Her distance of 10.66 meters (34 feet, 11 3/4 inches) earned eighth place to just sneak into the scoring column. She reached the distance on her second jump and was able to hang on to the spot. She had previously claimed All-Region honors in the event outdoors in 2011. 

Farrington's point helped the Judges finish in a tie for 23rd place with four other schools. 

The Judges return to action next weekend at the University Athletic Association championships at Case Western Reserve University.
