Men's track opens season at BU

BOSTON, Mass. -- In their first meet of the season, the Brandeis men's track and field team competed at the Boston University Season Opener. The Judges sent 10 runners to the meet that comprised of mostly Division I and II squads. 

The top performance of the meet came from rookie Omar Scruggs (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Prep), who placed fourth in the 800-meter run. His time of 1:57.38 was less than 1.5 seconds behind the winner from Division I Northeastern. Sophomore Matt Becker (Mendon, Mass./Nipmuc Regional) was second in his heat in the event, 14th overall, with a time of 2:08.03.

Senior Vincent Asante (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Arts, Imagination and Inquiry) won his heat and placed 11th overall out of 35 competitors in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.92 seconds, just two-hundredths of a second off his best time from 2012-13.

The Judges had three other top-20 finishes, all coming in the 500-meter run, where sophomores Trevor Tuplin (Weymouth, Mass. / Weymouth) and Brandon Odze (Melville, N.Y. / Half Hollow Hills East) and rookie Josh Romanowicz (Peru, N.Y.) achieved the feat.

Brandeis is back in action next semester at the Dartmouth Relays on Jan. 12.
