The Brandeis men's and women's track and field teams continued their fast start to the season over the weekend, picking up a number of top-10 finishes and personal bests at the Tufts Stampede in Medford, Mass.

Both teams finished in ninth. The women totaled 19 points, while the men finished with 18.

Senior Victoria Sanford (Andover, N.Y./Andover) and sophomore Kelsey Whitaker (Kingston, Mass./Notre Dame Acad.) paced the Judges, as both excelled in the mile. Sanford finished in second with a time of 5:03.41, lowering the career-best she set last week by nearly two seconds. Whitaker finished just behind her at 5:03.43, good for third, and more than 10 seconds better than her previous personal record. Their times are the seventh- and eighth-fastest in Division III this year.

Sanford was named the UAA women's indoor track athlete of the week.

Junior Kristi Pisarik (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) ran the mile for the first time in her indoor career and finished 14^th with a time of 5:30.82.

Rookie Ashley Piccirillo-Horan (North Granby, Conn./Granby Memorial) excelled in the 1000, her time of 3:07.71 good for fourth. Sophomore Molly Paris (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth) finished 12^th in the event.

Three Brandeis women competed in the shot put. Sophomore Ashley Klein (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan), junior Alyssa Fenenbock (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) and rookie Selena Livas (Portland, Ore./Cleveland) finished 25^th, 27^th and 28^th, respectively.

On the men's side, junior Mohamed Sidique (Harlem, N.Y./St. Raymond H.S. School for Boys) had a pair of sixth-place finishes. Sidique set two new career bests, running the 600 in 1:26.96 and reaching 6.25 meters in the long jump.

Sophomore Matt Becker (Mendon, Mass./Nipmuc Regional) also ran the 600 and placed eighth with a time of 1:27.51. Sophomore Trevor Tuplin (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) and rookie Nick Wactor (Oakland, Calif./Head-Royce) finished 13^th and 14^th, respectively, as both set new career bests.

In field events, sophomore Adam Berger (Concord, N.H./Concord) placed seventh in the triple jump, reaching 12.53 meters. Berger also placed 18^th in the 60-meter dash. Rookie Mark Franklin (Auburn, N.H./Pinkerton Acad.) took 10^th in the high jump with a height of 1.73 meters.

Rookie Quinton Hoey (Watertown, Conn./Watertown) placed 10^th in the 3000 with a time of 9:05.52, more than five seconds faster than the career best he established three weeks ago.

Senior sprinter Vincent Asante (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Arts Imagination and Inquiry) ran the 400 for the first time since 2012 and finished in 55.43 seconds, good for 23^rd. Rookie Matt Doran (Hopedale, Mass./Hopedale) finished 16^th in the 800.

Both the men's and women's squads are back in action this weekend at the Valentine Classic at Boston University.
