Gourde adds USTFCCCA Division New England Track Athlete of the Year honors

WALTHAM, Mass. –  Brandeis University graduate student Irie Gourde of Portland, Oregon, has added Division III New England Runner of the Year honors from the United States Track and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) to his trophy cases.

Gourde, who previously earned Most Outstanding Runner honors from the University Athletic Association, earned three All-UAA and two All-New England honors this year. He is ranked second in Division III in the 400-meter run with a time of 47.81 seconds and 11th in Division III and tops among New England runners in the 200-meter run with a time of 22.09, which has been converted to 21.71 seconds for track size. Gourde won the 200 and finished second in the 400 at the UAA Championships two weeks ago.

Gourde will be honored at this weekend's NCAA Division III Championships, which are being held in Birmingham, Alabama. Prelim races for the men's 400-meters are Friday at 3:05 p.m. Central/4:05 p.m. Eastern, while the 200 prelims are at 4:15/5:15 Eastern. Finals at 3:15 and 4:05 Central/4:15 and 5:05 Eastern, respectively, on Saturday.

Gourde is a 2013 graduate of York Academy in Toronto, Canada. He received his B.A. from Brandeis last year.
