NEW HAVEN, Connecticut. – At the 2019 New England All-Division Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the Brandeis track and field team had four All-New England performances, including one title, and a pair of school records broken.
Leading the way once again was senior Emily Bryson (Quincy, Mass./North Quincy), who won the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:25.19, two seconds faster than the runner-up from Division I Dartmouth and a handful of Division III competitors. Bryson's time was the second-fastest in Division III this season – second only to her own school-record time of 4:23.02 run in April at Princeton.
The Judges' other All-Region honor came from rookie Jac Guerra (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Guerra was seventh overall and the second Division III runner in the event with a time of 11:15.51. He was about three seconds off a personal best and currently ranks 27th in Division III, about 10 seconds out of an NCAA championship berth.
On the men's side, both scoring performances came in field events and established new school records. Junior Breylen Ammen (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) bested his previous record in the pole vault by one centimeter to 4.56 meters, which is just shy of 15 feet. He had previously reached 4.55 meters on a couple of occasions. Ammen finished in eighth place, fifth among DIII competitors.
Rounding out the scoring and the record-setters was junior Jack Allan (Wrentham, Mass./King Phillip Regional), who became the first Judge to surpass 6,000 points in the decathlon with a mark of 6121. He had finished two points shy of the 6K mark at the New England Division III Championships a week earlier. Allan set three personal-best performances, highlighted by the 1,500-meter run, where he surpassed his previous PR by 11 seconds with a time of 4:48.59 on the final event to push himself above the 6,000-point mark. Allan also had personal-bests in the javelin throw at 44.94 meters (147-5) and 3.55 meters (11-7 ¾) in the pole vault. He also had season-best performances in the high jump (1.87m, 6-1 ½) and 100-meter dash (11.75 seconds).
The Judges will send a handful of their top competitors to a Last Chance meet at MIT on Thursday as an attempt to qualify or improve their standing to reach the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the SPIRE Institute at Geneva, Ohio, May 23-25.
