Brown, Boutin claim All-UAA honors as men's x-country places fourth

CHICAGO, Ill. -- Brandeis men's cross country seniors Chris Brown (Westford, Mass./Westford Acad.) and Marc Boutin (No. Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) claimed All-University Athletic Association honors on Saturday at the 2011 UAA Championships at the University of Chicago. As a team, the Judges finished in fourth place for the second-straight year and the third time in four years.

Brown and Boutin both earned second-team All-UAA honors by finishing among the second seven runners of the meet. Brown was ninth overall in the 8K race with a time of 26:00.05, just under 10 seconds out of seventh place and first-team honors. He improved his placement by 13 spots of 2010 and his time by more than 20 seconds. Boutin, the 2008 UAA Rookie of the Year, came in 14th overall with a time of 26:20.20 to claim the final All-UAA spot by less than two seconds. His placement was his best at UAAs, topping a 19th-place rookie campaign. This marks the first time since 2004 that Brandeis has placed two runners among the top 14. 

The Judges' next two finishers were right behind one another. Sophomore Ed Colvin (Roslindale, Mass./Catholic Memorial School), the 2010 UAA Rookie of the Year, came in 21st overall with a time of 26:35.23, up three spots from his freshman race. Right behind him in 22nd place was junior Alex Kramer (No. Andover, Mass./Andover), who finished in 26:40.10 in his first UAA race. Sophomore Taylor Dundas (Bath, Maine/Cheverus) closed out the scorers with a 59th-place finish in his first UAA race, crossing in 27:57.38. 

Other Brandeis competitors were a trio of rookies: Michael Rosenbach (Tampa, Fla./Berkley Prep), 66th, 28:15.02; Greg Bray (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury), 67th, 28:19.42; and Jarrett Harrigan (Ipswich, Mass./St. Johns Prep), 74th, 29:36.96.

Brandeis ended up with 118 points, 26 more than in 2010, but still finished in fourth place. The Judges were behind three nationally-ranked teams (#3 Washington University, 46 pts; #15 NYU 64 pts; and #10 Chicago, 79 pts) and ahead of Carnegie Mellon (138 pts), #27 Rochester (146 pts), Case (160) and Emory (166). 

Next up for the Judges is the NCAA Division III regional nextweekend at Bowdoin College. The New England region boasts six of the top 35 teams in the nation.
