    Sophomore 2B Melisa Cagar was named to a pair of All-New England teams this season. The Judges' leading hitter and single-season record holder with 32 stolen bases was named a first-team All-Region selection by the NFCA and the NEISCA.

    Rookie Brittany Grimm had the game-winning two-run hit as the softball team defeated Plymouth State, 6-3, to advance to the title game of the ECAC Division III New England tournament. The Judges were unable to defend their crown, however, falling to Keene State, 11-1, in five innings in the championship game.

    The top-seeded Brandeis softball team trounced Western New England College, 11-3, in their first double-elimination game of the ECAC tournament thanks to two home runs by sophomore 1B Courtney Kelley, her second and third of the tournament. The Judges were sent to the loser's bracket by Keene State, 6-3.

    Four members of the Brandeis University softball team have been selected as All-University Athletic Association members by the league's coaches. Sophomore 2B Melisa Cagar was a first-team selection, while junior catcher Erin Ross, sophomore 1B Courtney Kelley and rookie outfielder Samantha Gajweski were second-team honorees.

    For the second year in a row, the Brandeis softball team has earned the top seed in the ECAC Division III New England tournament. The Judges, at 25-15, will face eighth-seeded Curry College (27-16) at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, as they attempt to defend their title.

    Junior SS Chelsea Korp hit a two-out two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning, one of six Brandeis blasts on the day, that gave the Judges a dramatic 10-9 win over Emerson in the first game of a doubleheader. The Judges trounced the Lions, ranked No. 3 in the Northeast region, in game two, 8-3.
  • Brandeis softball splits with No. 5 Tufts to spoil Jumbos' perfect season

    Sophomore 1B Courtney Kelley had a clutch two-out RBI double and the softball team hung on to defeat fifth-ranked Tufts, 2-1, in the second game of a doubleheader. The Jumbos, who won game one, 3-0, were 35-0 and looking to complete an undefeated regular season.

    Because of inclement weather, the Brandeis-Amherst baseball game scheduled for April 21 at 3:30 p.m. has been postponed. It will be made up on Monday, April 27 at 4 p.m. Additionally, the game scheduled for April 23 at Roger Williams University has been cancelled so that RWU can make up a conference game. There is no make-up date scheduled.
  • Softball picks up two wins over Pine Manor, 5-0 and 4-3

    CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Brandeis University softball team swept Pine Manor in Monday’s doubleheader. The Judges won the first game 5-0 and came back in the second game for a 4-3 victory. With the two wins, Brandeis is 10 games over .500 with a record of 22-12 while Pine Manor falls to 18-18 on the season.

    WALTHAM, Mass. –The Brandeis softball team won both games of a doubleheader over Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon. The Judges scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to win the first game, 4-3, and then took the second game, 1-0, in a tight one. With the two wins, Brandeis is now 20-12 on the season while Wesleyan drops to 11-17 on the year.

    Sophomore Melisa Cagar went 5-for-7 with three runs scored and two RBI to lead Brandeis University to a doubleheader sweep of Salve Regina University in non-conference action Thursday at Toppa Field. The Judges won game one, 7-3, and game two, 9-0.

    Head coach Jessica Johnson guided the Brandeis softball team to a sweep of her alma mater today as the Judges defeated Wheaton College, 10-5 and 3-2, in Norton, Mass. It was the first meeting between the two teams since 1997.

    Rookie Caroline Miller became the first Brandeis player of 2009 to earn UAA Softball and New England Intercollegiate Softball Coaches Association (NEISCA) Pitcher of the Week honors. She went 3-0 with a 0.37 earned run average in a 5-1 week for the Judges.

    The Brandeis University softball team visited Lasell College for a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. They won the first game, 3-2, and followed it up with an 8-3 victory in the second. With these wins, the Judges climb to 7-7 overall while Lasell drops to 5-7 on the season.

    On March 10-14, the Brandeis softball team competed in the 2009 University Athletic Association Softball Championship Tournament in Altamonte Springs, Fla. Junior C Erin Ross of Manalapan, N.J., and sophomore 2B Melisa Cagar of Ridgewood, N.J., were named to the All-Tournament team for their efforts in Florida.

    The Brandeis softball team swept the only non-conference foe to hand them multiple losses in 2008, downing Wellesley College, 4-2, and 4-0, on the road today. The games were the first of the Northern part of the schedule for the Judges, who improved to 5-7 on the campaign.
