WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University rookie Sydney Goldman of Sherman Oaks, California, and senior Olivia Leavitt of Falmouth, Maine, have been named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 14.

Goldman was honored as the UAA Softball Pitcher of the Week for the first time in her career. She pitched twice for the 21st-ranked Judges in a four-game UAA series against Case Western Reserve, a pre-season top 10 squad. In the second game of the series on April 12, after the Spartans handed Brandeis their first loss of the season, Goldman came one strike away from throwing her first career no-hitter. She struck out a career-high 10 with one walk to face two batters over the minimum in a 5-0 win. In the series finale, Goldman tossed another complete game, allowing six hits and two runs (one earned) with four strikeouts as the Judges scored a run in the sixth and another in the seventh to pull out a 3-2 win.

For the season, Goldman owns an 8-0 record with a league-leading 1.56 earned-run average. She also ranks third in the UAA with eight wins and 60 strikeouts. In head coach Danielle DelPonte's fourth season, the Judges are off to the best start in program history at 18-1-1 and were ranked 21st in Division III in the most recent National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III poll. They meet Clark University and Worcester State University in non-conference matchups on Tuesday and Wednesday before traveling to Carnegie Mellon for another four-game UAA set this weekend.

Leavitt was selected as the UAA Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the first time in her career for the 14th-ranked Judges. After posting a pair of close losses in a 6-3 defeat to #8 Tufts on April 11, she bounced back for two huge victories in a 5-4 upset of #6 Bowdoin in her home state on April 13. After Brandeis fell behind 1-0 in doubles, Leavitt and partner Lauren Bertsch of Middletown, Rhode Island, picked up an 8-6 win at #1 doubles to even the match at 1-1. In singles action, Bowdoin won three of the first four matches to take a 4-3 lead. Leavitt helped even the match at 4-all with a 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) win at No. 2 singles before classmate and last week's UAA Player of the Week Keren Khromchenko of Manalapan, New Jersey, clinched the upset with a 6-0, 6-7 (2-7), 6-2 triumph. Leavitt and Bertsch also picked up an 8-3 win in a 9-0 sweep of Division II Stonehill on April 14.

The two wins improved Brandeis to 11-4 on the season, giving them nine-straight 10-win seasons under head coach Ben Lamanna, who is in his 14th year with the program. Brandeis will travel to Altamonte Springs, Florida, April 23-26 for the UAA tournament, which will feature five of the top 15 teams in Division III and six of the top 20.

Goldman is a 2018 graduate of Notre Dame High School.

Leavitt is a 2015 graduate of Falmouth High School.
