    Brandeis junior Jessica Chapin and graduate student Steve DeLuca have been selected as Division III Basketball All-Americans by their respective coaches Associations. Chapin give the Brandeis women an honorable mention All-American for the sixth-straight year, while DeLuca is the sixth NABC All-American in Brandeis history.
  • Hanley places 17th, Judges 18th at NCAA fencing championships

    Sophomore saberist Anna Hanley placed 17th overall, helping the Brandeis fencing team to an 18th place finish at the 2009 NCAA National Collegiate Championships. The Judges were second among Division III schools and third among New England schools.
  • Women's hoops season comes to a close in Elite Eight, 68-54, at Amherst

    Despite 11 points and nine rebounds in the first half from senior Cassidy Dadaos and eight points and four boards in the second from classmate Lauren Orlando, the Brandeis women's basketball team saw its 2008-09 season come to a close one step shy of the Final Four. The Judges lost to Amherst, 68-54, on the Lord Jeffs' home court.

    All five starters scored in double figures to lead the Judges past Muhlenberg in the Sweet 16, 82-70. Brandeis will face the winner of the NYU-Amherst game for the right to advance to the Final Four tomorrow at 6 p.m.

  • Chapin adds All-District honors, becomes eligible for All-America accolades

    Junior Jessica Chapin became the fourth woman in school history to earn All-District honors from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). The Judges' leader in scoring, rebounding, steals and assists leads the team into the Sweet 16 against Muhlenberg College on Friday evening at 5 p.m. at Amherst College.

    The Brandeis women jumped out to a 16-2 lead and never looked back, leading wire-to-wire, as the Judges defeated Mount Saint Mary (N.Y.) College, 79-52, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. With the win, Brandeis registers 19 victories in a season for the sixth-straight year and advances to the Sweet 16 for the first time.
  • Orlando rallies women past Western Conn, 62-49, in NCAA tournament first round

    Senior Lauren Orlando scored all of her game-high 15 points in the second half as the Judges rallied from a 10-point deficit with 13:04 remaining to defeat Western Connecticut State, 62-49, in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament. The Judges advance to face Mount St. Mary tomorrow at 5 p.m.

    As one of three players in the top 10 in the league in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals, junior guard Jessica Chapin was named a first-team women's basketball All-UAA selection. Teammates Diana Cincotta, Cassidy Dadaos and Lauren Orlando were honorable mention selections.

    Both Brandeis basketball teams are in the NCAA tournament for the third year in a row, and for the first time in school history, the Judge women will host the first two rounds. Brandeis will host Western Connecticut in the first round, with Mt. St. Mary (N.Y.) and SUNY-Brockport in the other game. The men travel to Franklin & Marshall to play the University of Scranton.
  • Brandeis women earn NCAA bid, will host for first time

    For the fourth straight year, the Brandeis women's basketball team has earned an at-large berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament, and for the first time, the Judges will serve as host for the first two rounds. With a record of 17-7, 7-7 in the University Athletic Association (UAA), Brandeis will host Western Connecticut State University (21-5, 12-2 Little East) in the first round on Friday, March 6, at 7 p.m.
  • No. 25 women fall to No. 20 NYU, 62-49

    Despite 12 points and a career-high 17 rebounds by junior guard Jessica Chapin, the 25th-ranked Brandeis women dropped a 62-49 decision to No. 20 NYU in their regular-season finale. The Judges await their postseason fate from the NCAA tournament committee on Monday morning.

    The Brandeis women's basketball team converted 20 Emory turnovers into 23 points, while giving up just seven points on their own miscues as the Judges defeated the visiting Eagles, 67-57, in a University Athletic Association contest. Brandeis improves to 16-6 on the season, 6-6 in the conference.

    Junior Jessica Chapin recorded her second career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while dishing a career-high six assists, to lead the women's basketball team past second-ranked Rochester, 52-50. The Judges held the 'Jackets to one field goal over the game's final 11 minutes.

The Judges put three players in double figures, led by senior Lauren Orlando with 15 points and 13 points, eight rebounds and eight steals by junior Jessica Chapin.

The Judges used a 38-24 rebounding edge against the fifth-ranked team in Division III in rebound margin, while shooting 43% against the nation's top field-goal percentage defense.

    After putting up their lowest-scoring half of the season, the Brandeis University men's basketball team overcame a 31-20 deficit by scoring a season-high 53 in the second to defeat host Case Western Reserve, 73-66. The Judges also took a season-high 39 free throws, connecting on 32 of them. Junior Kenny Small had 13 off the bench, all in the second half.
