ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Brandeis women's basketball team suffered a 79-47 defeat at the hands of ninth-ranked Washington (Mo.) University this afternoon. With the loss, the Judges have dropped three in a row and are 11-13 overall, 3-10 in the University Athletic Association. The Bears improve to 20-4, 11-2 in the UAA.

Brandeis did not have any players score in double figures. Senior Amber Strodthoff (DePere, Wis./DePere), junior Morgan Kendrew (Cotuit, Mass./Barnstable) and rookie Janelle Rodriguez (Peabody, Mass./Peabody Veterans Memorial) each tallied seven points. Junior Kelly Ethier (Springfield, Mass./Minnechaug Regional), sophomore Samantha Anderson (Johnsonville, N.Y./Hoosic Valley) and rookie Kasey Dean (Southbury, Conn./Pomeraug) added six each. Rodriguez also topped the squad with seven rebounds, one shy of a career-best. Senior Mia DePalo (Rumson, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) added three assists.

Washington put four different players in double figures. Kathyn Berger notched 19 points in just 22 minutes, including 17 points in the first half, only five fewer than the entire Judges squad. Annie Sayers, Jordan Rettig and Kristin Anda all notched 10 points for the hosts. Claire Schaeperkoetter tied with Rodriguez for game-high honors with seven boards, while Alex Hoover led all players with six assists. She and Anda each had three steals on the day.

WashU opened up a 43-22 halftime lead by shooting 50 percent from the floor (15-30) while holding the Judges to 37 percent (9-24). They also hit five 3-pointers to none for Brandeis and outscored them 8-4 from the line. For the entire game, Washington outrebounded Brandeis, 45-31, including 19-9 on the offensive glass, converting that edge into a 23-7 advantage in second-chance points. They also used an 18-10 turnover edge for a 25-9 margin in points off those miscues.

Brandeis wraps up its season next Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at NYU.
