Women's Basketball Takes Championship in Invitational Action, 63-51

WALTHAM, Mass. - The Brandeis Women's Basketball team improves to 2-1 as they cruise past Eastern Nazarene with a 63-51 victory in the championship game of the Brandeis Women's Basketball Invitational. 

 

The Judges took a 6-3 lead at the 6:50 mark in the first quarter and never looked back. Brandeis led the Lions for the remainder of the game, leading as much as 52-27 in the third quarter. The Judges held their ground, never letting their lead slip below 11 in the fourth quarter. 

 

Brandeis was paced by sophomore Katie Goncalo's (Fall River, Mass./Tabor Academy) 18 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Sophomore Hannah Nicholson (Sunderland, Vt./Burr and Burton Academy) was one rebound shy of back-to-back double-doubles. She finished with 16 points and nine rebounds on 8-11 from the field. Freshman Camila Casanueva (Santa Barbara, Calif./Dos Pueblos) recorded big minutes off the bench, scoring seven points on 3-6 from the field, collecting four rebounds, and dishing out a pair assists. 

 

Eastern Nazarene was led by Michelle Detwiler and Jacquelin Arretche who reached had 13 points. The Lions shot 73.3% from the line, but were out-rebounded in the contest, 42-23. 

 

The championship game followed the 12pm consolation matchup between Mitchell College and Western Connecticut State University. Western Connecticut topped Mitchell 128-77.
