MEDFORD, Mass. (taken from Tufts sports information) – The Brandeis University women's basketball team fell at home on Sunday afternoon to the 2017 NCAA Championship finalist Tufts Jumbos, 62-41. The Judges fell to 3-2 with the loss, while Tufts stayed undefeated, moving to 4-0.

Four different players had six points for the Judges (3-2). Senior Eva Hart (Manasquan, N.J. / Manasquan), sophomore Hannah Nicholson (Sunderland, Verm. / Burr and Burton Academy), sophomore Lauren Rubinstein (Southbury, Conn. / Pomperaug), and junior Sarah Jaromin (East Greenbush, N.Y. / Columbia) were all tied for the team-high. Nicholson also added a team-high 10 rebounds. The Jumbos (4-0) were led by Erica DeCandido who recorded 19 points, four rebounds, and three steals in 26 minutes of action. Melissa Baptista added 14 points, four rebounds, three steals and two blocks, while Jac Knapp contributed 12 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

Tufts opened the game on a 13-0 run, where four of the five starters contributed points. Baptista hit her second jumper of the quarter to wrap up the first quarter with the Jumbos out in front, 18-9.

Brandeis actually closed the gap a bit in the second frame, outscoring Tufts 13-10. Hart, Rubinstein, and Jaromin each had four for the Judges in the quarter. The Jumbos went into halftime with a six-point lead.

Tufts opened the second half strong like the first half. DeCandido had eight of her points early in the third quarter, going for 13 in the entire frame. In the fourth Lauren Dillon hit a three, adding to her total of eight, while Knapp had a bucket of her own and went 2-for-2 from the free throw line in the final quarter.

The Jumbos outrebounded the Judges 36-28, and held the edge in steals and blocks, 14-4 and 3-0 respectively.

Brandeis will host Salem State this Tuesday at 6 PM. Tufts will travel to Williamstown next Friday to take part in the Williams Invitational. They play Rochester at 6 PM.
