Women's hoops falls to #6 Tufts, 110-63

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Brandeis women's basketball team found itself on the wrong end of another high-scoring game today as the Judges fell to host Tufts, 110-63. The Judges fall to 1-3 on the season, while the Jumbos, ranked sixth nationally in Division III by the WBCA and D3hoops.com, improve to 4-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • There were five lead changes over the first five minutes of the game, with Tufts holding a 15-12 lead at the midway point of the first quarter. The hosts closed the period on a 16-8 run to take a 31-20 lead after one.
  • The Jumbos put the game away in the second, when they outscored Brandeis, 32-13 to take a 63-33 lead at the break. Tufts shot 60 percent from the field (12-20) and had just two turnovers, while Brandeis hit 22 percent (2-11) with eight miscues.
  • The hosts were similarly in control in the third, outshooting Brandeis 61 percent to 29 percent and winning the turnover battle, 10-3, as they extended their lead to 91-46 before finishing with the final 110-63 margin.
  • For the game, Brandeis sophomore Camila Casanueva (Santa Clara, Calif./Dos Pueblos) led the team with 18 points and five assists, while also grabbing five rebounds.
  • Senior Sarah Jaromin (E. Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia) added 10 points.
  • Sophomore Samira Abdelrehim (Burlington, Conn./Lewis S. Mills) set a career-high for the second game in a row with six rebounds to lead the Judges.
  • Five Tufts players scored in double digits, led by Janette Wadolowski's 22 off the bench on 7-of-12 from the field with a 3-pointer, and 7-of-7 from the line. She also had a game-high seven rebounds and dished out five assists.
  • Emily Briggs had a fine all-around game with 19 points, five steals, three blocked shots, three rebounds and three steals.
  •  Molly Ryan and reserve Sofia Rosa each had 16 points and Erica DeCandido had 13.
  • Jac Knapp registered a game-high eight assists for the hosts.

  • Brandeis travels to Salem State on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. for their second-straight road game.
  • Tufts is at the Williams College Tournament, where they will meet New England College next Friday at 8 p.m.
