Casanueva named second-team All-UAA

WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University sophomore Camila Casanueva of Santa Barbara, California, has been named a second-team All-University Athletic Association (UAA) team member for her performance during the 2018-19 season.

Casanueva, who was the 2018 UAA Rookie of the Year, was the Judges' top performer all season long. She led the Judges in scoring (14.8 points per game) and assists (3.6 assists per game), ranking sixth and fifth in the conference, respectively. She also was second on the squad in rebounding (6.0 rebounds per game) and led the team with 35 steals. Her 85.5 percent shooting from the free-throw line led the conference and ranked 18th in all of Division III.  It was the Judges' second-best season in program history from the line as the Judges finished 13th in the nation in free-throw shooting as a team.

Casanueva led Brandeis in scoring 11 times in 24 games, including the Judges' two highest-scoring performances of the season – 30 points against Salem State on Nov. 27th and 27 against Carnegie Mellon on Jan. 11th, when she recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds. In all, Casanueva scored in double figures for the Judges in all but four games this season, netting at least 20 four times. She was named the UAA Player of the Week for the first time in her career on December 2nd, when she was also added to the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week.

Casanueva and the Judges posted a 7-17 record this season, finishing in seventh place in the league.

Casanueva is a 2017 graduate of Dos Pueblos High School.
