  • Cardillo, Mack top fencers at 2011 Northeast Regionals

    A pair of first-year competitors, foilist Julian Cardillo for the men and epeeist Leah Mack for the women, topped the charts for the Brandeis fencing team at the 2011 NCAA Northeast Regional at Vassar College this weekend. Cardillo finished seven at the meet, locking up a bid to the NCAA championships at Ohio State (which will be announced on Tuesday), while Mack placed 10th overall.

    Three Brandeis student-athletes have been selected as UAA Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 23. Senior Grayce Selig was recognized for the women's track and field team, while seniors Anna Hanley and Adam Austin were honored for men's and women's fencing.

    Thanks to a pair of 14-13 victories decided in the last bout, the Brandeis women's fencing team went 5-1 at the second Northeast Conference Fencing meet. The Judges topped BC and Brown by just one point with wins by senior epee Emma Larkin (pictured) and sophomore foil Vikki Nunley clinching the wins.

    Brandeis had a successful day on Saturday at the Big One Tournament hosted by Smith College. The men's team came home with four medals, including two gold, while the women's team brought home a bronze.

    The Brandeis fencing team opened the 2010 season at the New England Intercollegiate Fencing Conference Fall Tournament. Leading the way were senior Adam Austin and junior Alex Powell, who both earned gold medals. Senior Jon Rollock, rookie Julian Cardillo and sophomore Vikki Nunley each claimed bronze.
