Shealy, Kronrod named UAA Fencers of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University junior Maggie Shealy of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and first-year Tal Kronrod of Concord, Massachusetts, have been named the University Athletic Association Fencers of the Week for their performances during the week ending November 21st.

Shealy was honored for the third week in a row and the sixth time in her career with UAA weekly honors. She went 22-2 over the course of the Judges' two competitions. At the Beanpot tournament on Nov. 17th at Harvard, Shealy went 6-0, 3-0 against both Harvard and BC, despite two losses by the Judges overall. At the first Northeast Fencing Conference meet of the season, she went 16-2, posting 2-1 records against Sacred Heart and Tufts and 3-0 marks against Boston University, UMass, Smith and Wellesley.

Kronrod went 8-2 in epee for the Brandeis men last week, as the team and the epee squad each went 4-3. He went 3-2 at the Beanpot (1-1 vs Harvard, 2-1 vs BC) and 5-0 at the Northeast Fencing Conference, including 3-0 against Sacred Heart in the team's only varsity competition of the meet. He also had wins over UMass and New Hampshire. This is his first UAA Fencer of the Week honor. 

The Brandeis fencing team returns to action on Dec. 5th when they host the first of three meets this season, the Brandeis Invitational.  

Shealy is a 2019 graduate of East Chapel Hill High School.

Kronrod is a 2021 graduate of Concord-Carlisle High School.
