• Austin, Friedman, Hanley headed to NCAA championships

    Senior foil Will Friedman became the second Brandeis fencer to reach four straight NCAA championships, while sophomore sabers Adam Austin and Anna Hanley will be making their first appearances at the national championships, held March 19-22 at Penn State University.

    Senior Caitlin Kozel earned a bronze medal in the epee, helping the Brandeis women's fencing team to the top finish among Division III schools at the 112th Intercollegiate Fencing Association championships. The Judges were sixth out of 12 teams.

    The Gosman Athletic Center will play host to one of the most prestigious events in all of college athletics on Saturday when the Brandeis fencing team serves as host of the 2009 Intercollegiate Fencing Association (IFA) championships. The meet begins at 8:30 a.m. and lasts until approximately 5:00 p.m.
  • Women's fencing goes 4-1 at Stevens Tech

    Saber fencers Alex Turner and Anna Hanley combined to go 21-6 on the day as the Brandeis women's fencing team posted a 4-1 record at the Stevens Institute of Technology. The Judges bested Johns Hopkins (17-10), Drew (19-8), Stevens (19-8) and Fairleigh Dickinson (22-5).
  • Women's fencing splits at Eric Sollee Invitational

    The Brandeis women's fencing team went 3-3 at the 2009 Brandeis-MIT Invitational, newly rechristened as the Eric Sollee Invitational after the long-time Engineer coach. The Judges defeated UAA rivals NYU, along with Yeshiva and Haverford. Both the foil and epee squads posted 4-2 records.
  • Saber sweeps as women's fencing downs Wellesley, 18-9

    Paced by the saber squad of sophomores Anna Hanley and Alex Turner and senior Jenny Press, who won six of their nine bouts by 5-0 or 5-1 scored, the Brandeis women's fencing team improved to 18-2 tonight with an 18-9 win over Wellesley.

    Three Brandeis University women have earned University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week honors for the week ending Jan. 25. Sophomore Alex Dalrymple and senior Jessica Newhall were recognized for women's fencing, while senior Ali Sax was honored for women's track and field.
  • Women's fencing captures Northeast Fencing Conference title

    With a 6-0 record in the second Northeast Fencing Conference meet of the season and a 12-0 overall mark, the Brandeis University fencing team captured the 2009 NFC title. The Judges were paced by the foil squad which lost just six bouts on the afternoon.

    Three Brandeis student-athletes have earned University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week honors. Sophomore Anna Hanley was selected for women's fencing for the third time this season. Junior Terrell Hollinsearned the honor for men's basketball for the second time in his career, while sophomore Paul Norton of the men's indoor track and field team was recognized for the second time in 2008-09.

    Senior All-American Caitlin Kozel (Jamestown, R.I.) posted a dramatic 5-4 win to lead Brandeis over Brown, 14-13, at the Brandeis Invitational. The Judges also down Cornell and St. John's, 14-13, while dropping a one-point decision to Yale.
  • Defense turns on clamps as No. 12 women top Babson, 81-57

    After a start in which they faced their biggest deficit of the season, the 12th-ranked Brandeis women's basketball team held visiting Babson to just 25 percent shooting in the second half as the Judges cruised to an 81-57 win in Red Auerbach Arena. With the win, the Judges improve to 8-0 and take a 22-20 lead in the all-time series.
  • Brandeis women take second at Boston Beanpot fencing championship

    Behind the efforts of senior epee Caitlin Kozel (Jamestown, R.I.) and sophomore saber fencer Anna Hanley (Medford, Mass.), the Brandeis women's fencing team took second place at the Boston Beanpot championships for the second year in a row. The Judges defeated MIT and BC, while falling to Harvard.
  • Women's fencing wins all six at Northeast Fencing Conference opener

    The women's fencing team went 6-0 in its first head-to-head matchups of the season, including a 14-13 win over MIT. The Northeast Fencing Conference meet was held at the University of New Hampshire.
