#28 women's tennis takes first win of season, 8-0, at Chapman

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The 28th-ranked Brandeis women's tennis team played its first match against a Division III opponent this season, and the Judges topped #34 Chapman University, 8-0. In the first of three matches scheduled for a trip to California, Brandeis saw five different first-year players contribute to the scoring. The Judges are now 1-1 overall, while the Panthers fall to 0-2.

DOUBLES

  • The Judges jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a trio of easy doubles wins.
  • Senior Sarita Biswas (Bedford, Mass./Bedford) and rookie Keren Khromchenko (Manalapan, N.J. / Academy of Allied Health and Science) breezed at No. 3, 8-0.
  • Another senior-freshman duo, Emily Eska (Princeton, Mass./Wachusett Regional) and Sophia He (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Spackenkill) took an 8-1 decision at No. 2.
  • The No. 1 duo of sophomore Haley Cohen (Cherry Hills, N.J./Laurel Springs) and rookie Olivia Leavitt (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) closed out the doubles sweep, 8-2.

SINGLES

  • The Judges clinched the match by winning the first three singles matches without losing a single game.
  • Rookie Michele Lehat (Great Neck , N.Y. / John L. Miller Great Neck North) at No. 4 and senior Hannah Marion (Hillsborough, N.C. / Cedar Ridge) at No. 5 both won in 12-straight games to clinch the match.
  • Cohen followed up with a double-bagel at No. 1 singles.
  • Khromchenko picked up a 6-2, 6-4, win at No. 3, while rookie Ariana Ishaq (Houston, Texas / Carnegie Vanguard) rounded out the scoring at No. 6, 6-1, 6-4.
  • Leavitt's match at No. 2 was called because of rain, accounting for the final 8-0 score.

  • The Judges' second of three California matches is Friday afternoon at #18 University of Redlands followed by a meeting on Saturday at #4 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
