#31 Women's Tennis Defeats #33 Christopher Newport University

WALTHAM, Mass. – The #31 Brandeis women's tennis team defeated #33 Christopher Newport University 7-2 on Friday afternoon at Rieger Tennis Courts. The Judges improve to 3-5, while the Captains fell to 10-4.

Brandeis started off very well, sweeping doubles action. Sophomore Haley Cohen (Cherry Hill, N.J. / Laurel Springs) and rookie Olivia Leavitt (Falmouth, Maine / Falmouth) took the No. 1 matchup, 8-4. At the No. 2 spot, rookie Sophia He (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Spackenkill) and sophomore Charlotte Aaron (Phoenix, Ariz. / Arcadia) won by the same score, 8-4. In the No. 3 matchup, seniors Emily Eska (Princeton, Mass. / Wachusett Regional) and Maya Vasser (New Rochelle, N.Y. / New Rochelle) stayed undefeated as a pairing on the season, winning 8-5 for their third win of the year.

The Judges continued rolling when singles play began. Vasser and Eska respectively won 6-2, 6-2 and 7-6 (4), 6-3, and rookie Keren Khromchenko (Manalapan, N.J. / Academy of Allied Health and Science) clinched the match at No. 3 with a decisive 6-2, 6-2 victory. Leavitt also took care of business at No. 2, defeating Katie Carlson 6-2, 6-2. Cohen and McKinney Harwood split the first two sets 4-6 and 6-2, and then played a 12-point tiebreaker to decide the final set, which Harwood took 12-10.

The Judges continue play tomorrow against Amherst with their second match of the Nor'Easter Bowl, at home at 11:00 AM.
